Da Kine Ruhi

Vertically sliced to show the pale blue lines and yellow tips.
Da Kine Ruhi (Ru-hee) Hawaiian Organic Ginger is our most recently acquired cultivar of organic ginger. It’s origins are India but it is grown in Hawaii with aloha! Da Kine Ruhi is a most unusual variety of white ginger. Like our Big Kahuna and other quality white gingers, the inner flesh has a bluish color at the base often seen as a blue ring. It quickly becomes a cream color with a pale blue line beneath the skin as one goes further up the hand. This is where all similarities to the Big Kahuna and other white gingers stops as the tips of Da Kine Ruhi become a bright yellow. Yellow in ginger and turmeric is an indication of a concentration of curcumins. So not only is Da Kine Ruhi loaded with gingerols but Da Kine has more curcumins than all other white gingers.Da Kine Ruhi Hawaiian Organic Ginger has quite a rich and layered flavor. It’s depth of flavor inspired me to call it Da Kine Ruhi in honor of a friend of mine named Ruhi. Ruhi is a poet and has lived many years in India. He is a Meher Baba devotee. Ruhi is as close to a holy man as anyone I have ever known. To me this ginger is like Ruhi. Not because of its large size but because of what’s on the inside; smooth and mellow at the onset yet so very…… very intense.
Da Kine is a Hawaiian pidgin phrase. It appears in many contexts and refers to almost anything. However Da Kine is also frequently associated with something good or genuine, the best or the real deal. Hence, Da Kine Ruhi!
Da Kine Ruhi is the cornerstone of the Hawaii Clean Seed Project. It seems to get a jump start over the Kahuna and Yellow, hence our feeling that it is most suited for our mainland growers. It grows well in soil, coir and/or bag culture. I know of no one else in the world organically growing this rare cultivator of Indian ginger for export.
Da Kine Ruhi Hawaiian Organic Ginger is truly beautiful to behold. It has big bulbous rhizomes. It is a chefs delight to work with. We are delighted that Da Kine Ruhi has been very favorably received in the market place. We hope you enjoy eating it as much as we love growing it!

Some Poems and Stories by Ruhi
The following is from “Sketches of a Spiritual Wandering”
My given name is Marc Bruce Frank. My pen name is Ruhi, given to me by a dervish in India. It means the soul and how God plays hide and seek. I have spent my life wandering. It is an interesting and unusual way of life. It takes courage and abandonment to fate, for it is a life of freedom. Something deep within me compelled me to renounce an ordinary life in the world and to take to the road of adventure to experience living in the active present without thought of consequences for the future and survival in the world. I sought, for one thing, the meaning of existence and the freedom to realize my own Real Self. It was a work I promised myself and God to fulfill no matter what, and to keep expanding myselfwhatever the cost.

My dear friend Biker Dude, as per your request i have no favourite poems, some are written well, some good, and some not so good. out of the thousands of words i have written over many years i only remember one poem by heart and i don’t even know why, and that is the Dancer. the rest i don’t retain within myself consciously. first i’ll give you a short version of the story why The Dancer was written. this goes back to the late 60′s in manhattan. i met margaret craske who was a famous ballet dancer in the early 1900′s. she was an old woman when we met and she had a troupe of dancers that she was the teacher and chorographer for who had a world reputation. all this you can look up on the computer if you like. anyhow she told me i was the first person she ever allowed in her hotel room, so i was honoured. she took me to evening supper and she talked and i listened. later i watch her troupe of dancers and that caused me to write The Dancer.
The Dancer
She dances with grace and music plays to her form
As her body unfolds petals of joy.
Calm melodies brushed by an Artists unseen hand
she fashions white birds
from the air delicate whisperings
She soars in secret delight
affirming life
calling love to herself
The world spins to her movements while the universe bows.
there you are one poem can use. i was told The Dancer had been give to the great dancer Mikhail Breshnekov and it was published in a literary magazine. i had nothing to do with it, so i don’t know. now here is two lighter poems only to please you.
Tender
Tender the summer flowers drop their dresses
And children dance beside the deep green sea
And the stream shivers under the mighty reflector
Causing brightness in the night
Before the morning glow.
It is heard within the summer’s chirp
In the deep heat of the hearts’ core.
and lastly,
Gentle Voice
A gentle voice came to me, and spoke silently,!”
Saying…
“Look out the window of your eyes
and see that beyond all form there is God.
Speak to the flowers and stars
and the dust that clings to your feet.
And every soul that happens by your path,
speak of love that God may awaken!”
